Our coaching team brings together a unique mix of skills, passion, and experience — from current and former professional players to highly qualified coaches who know how to get the best out of every individual. This balance allows us to combine elite-level knowledge with a fun, supportive, and welcoming atmosphere.

Head Coach - George Sommerville
George leads our coaching team as Director of Cricket, bringing a wealth of knowledge and passion to every session. With a First-Class Coaching Degree and ECB Level 2 in Cricket Coaching, George has spent the last 10 years working with players from beginners to county level. His specialist focus lies in wicketkeeping and batting, where his technical knowledge and clear communication help players make real progress. George is dedicated to creating a high-quality environment where cricketers of all ages can develop their skills and enjoy the game.
Head Coach - Mark Lawson
As a former professional cricketer for Yorkshire, Derbyshire, Middlesex, and Kent, Mark brings unmatched experience to Sixers. Over the past 22 years, he has coached extensively both in the UK and overseas, helping players develop their game at all stages. Mark has a proven track record of guiding young players towards academy and professional cricket, and he specialises in working with batters, pace bowlers, and spinners. His coaching style blends professional insight with a supportive approach, ensuring players are pushed to reach their potential in a positive environment.
Coach - Louis Aspeling
Louis is an ex-first-class cricketer from South Africa, with over 30 years’ experience in the game. Still actively involved at a high level, Louis represents England Over-40s and the England Lions, keeping his playing sharp while sharing his expertise with Sixers players. As an ECB Level 3 qualified coach, he brings outstanding technical knowledge and an ability to help cricketers grow in every aspect of the game. Louis specialises in batting, bowling, wicketkeeping, fielding, and mental preparation, as well as developing crucial game awareness. His all-round expertise makes him a fantastic mentor for players of all ages and abilities.
Girls Cricket Lead - Ellie Nightingale
Ellie is a talented current Yorkshire Academy player and a qualified ECB Level 2 Core Coach, bringing both playing experience and coaching expertise to the Sixers team. She leads our Sixers Girls sessions, creating an inspiring and supportive environment for young female cricketers. With a specialism in wicketkeeping and batting, Ellie helps players build solid technical foundations while encouraging confidence at the crease. She has also gained valuable international coaching experience in South Africa with Yorkshire CC, further broadening her skills and knowledge. Passionate about growing the women’s and girls’ game, Ellie is a fantastic role model for the next generation of players.
Coach - Ben Bamforth
Ben is a Level 2 qualified coach with a growing reputation for inspiring and developing young cricketers. A former Huddersfield Young Player of the Year, Ben brings his own playing experience and passion into every session. With five years of coaching experience, he now leads our Sixers Stars, Cricket Tots, and Junior programmes, introducing the game to the next generation and helping them build strong foundations. Ben specialises in fast bowling and batting, with a focus on making sessions fun, energetic, and confidence-building for young players.
Coach - Tom Jenkinson
Tom is a highly experienced Level 3 coach with an impressive background in player development. Having previously worked as Regional Talent Manager with Western Storm, supporting the women’s professional game and a Yorkshire Pathway Coach. Tom’s coaching journey has given him wide-ranging experience across professional academies, Emerging Player Programmes, and county age-group cricket. His specialisms are batting and bowling, and he is passionate about helping players progress through structured development pathways while enjoying the game.
Coach - Noah Wood
Noah is a committed Level 2 qualified coach who plays a key role in leading our Junior Sixers sessions. With a real enthusiasm for helping young players develop their skills, Noah specialises in junior batting, and bowling, offering a rounded coaching approach for aspiring cricketers. He is also currently working towards his Level 3 coaching badge, demonstrating his ambition and dedication to continually improving as a coach. Noah brings energy, patience, and clear technical knowledge to every session, making him a fantastic mentor for junior players at Sixers.
